Why People Stop Taking Antidepressants: I Don’t Like How It Makes Me Feel

Screen Shot 2016-07-13 at 9.56.14 AMWhile treatment is supposed to improve quality of life, some people complain about the side effects of antidepressants. These may include nausea, weight gain, loss of sexual desire, fatigue or insomnia. After trying many different antidepressants, some people still can’t find one that works. Oftentimes, when first starting a new antidepressant, it fails to help improve their symptoms so the physician raises the dosage of the antidepressants, leading to new side effects. However, just because the first or even the second antidepressant you try causes side effects doesn’t mean all antidepressants will cause side effects.

You shouldn’t have to deal with negative effects just to treat your depression. If you’re not happy with the medication you are taking, maybe it’s time to consider other options. Through medical research, we hope to find better medicines to treat depression every day.
