07 Jul Myths about Antidepressants
Myth: Antidepressants will change your personality.
Fact: Antidepressants are designed to correct imbalances in brain chemistry. Mood in humans is primarily regulated by chemical messengers in the brain called neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters help your brain communicate with the rest of your body, so when you feel hungry or tired you have neurotransmitters to thank. In most people experiencing depressive symptoms, these neurotransmitters are not present at normal levels. Antidepressants help to bring neurotransmitter levels to where they should be.
They are meant to return you to your former self or your best self not create a different one.
